I love to walk along the beach at sunrise or sunset. Seeing the light of the sun reflecting off the water is so beautiful and peaceful. Today we are looking at a passage that speaks of the beauty and joy of walking in the light of God’s presence. I’m giving you our verse in a few translations. They each translate the original language in such rich ways.
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, Lord.—Psalm 89:15 (NIV)
Happy are the people who know the joyful shout; Yahweh, they walk in the light of Your presence. —Psalm 89:15 (HCSB)
How happy are those who have learned how to praise You; those who journey through life by the light of Your face.—Psalm 89:15 (The Voice)
When we walk in the light of God’s presence we are walking in a manner that is pleasing and honoring to Him, and this brings joy to our lives. God’s Word is light and God’s Spirit illuminates, making known to us the truths of His Word. If we want to know more of God and His ways we must be in His Word.
The more we know Him, the more we trust Him and praise Him for who He is! This gives us reason to be joyful. We know the joyful shout that results from a life that has meaning and purpose in Christ. We know the joyful shout of the gospel and its transforming work in our lives. And this changes our daily walk.
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. —Psalm 119:105
The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. —Psalm 119:130
Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes. —Psalm 119:135
You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence. —Acts 2:28
Did you notice that our verse speaks of the joy we know as we walk in God’s presence and as we praise Him, we are ushered into His presence.
Take a few moments to read through Psalm 19.
Spend some time reflecting on the verses from today and on the fact that God’s Word is light. Pray some of the characteristics of the Word you found in Psalm 19. Praise and thank God that He has not left us in darkness, but has revealed Himself to us through His creation and His Word!
It’s my prayer that through this summer series we will, “from the rising of the sun to its setting”, focus on our amazing God. We’ll take the Word for the day and think about it, ponder it, pray it and practice it. We’ll allow it to really SOAK into our hearts and lives. And then we’ll SHINE — boast, rave, praise and celebrate God’s presence in our lives, reflecting Jesus to those around us!
