As I contemplate God’s faithfulness and greatness, it also serves to magnify how often I am unfaithful in my walk with God. I often make promises I don’t keep. I let circumstances overwhelm me and allow them to motivate my actions instead of trusting God. I get caught up in what’s “fair” and “unfair” and my perspective turns inward instead of upward. The idols of my heart are many and my faithfulness is so shallow at times.
And trust can be hard!
We’ve all been hurt by another —betrayal, unfaithfulness, abandonment are all too common in our world. We often respond by isolating and protecting ourselves, refusing to trust another. But this armadillo-shell lifestyle was never God’s intention. We need one another, but more importantly we need Him! And life is so much greater and fuller when we allow Him to heal those broken and empty places in our hearts and lives left by another. He is so very faithful! We find completeness and wholeness in Jesus. (Colossians 2:10).
And God, understanding more than we do ourselves about our hearts, is not surprised by our faithlessness. His heart’s cry is that we would be found faithful in our walk, but He knows it is impossible for us to do apart from Jesus and submitting to His Spirit at work in us.
If we are faithless, He remains faithful —for He cannot deny himself. —2 Timothy 2:13
And those who know Your name put their trust in You, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You. —Psalm 9:10
What is faith and how do we walk faithful even when life is hard?
- Faith is being firmly and fully persuaded of something. It is a surety, a confidence in someone or something. It is trust.
- Faith requires we know our God.
- Faith requires action on our part based on the reality of who God is.
- Faith is trusting God, taking Him at His Word, and walking out that truth in my life, regardless of circumstance.
Are you fully persuaded?
Are you fully persuaded that God can and will act in whatever situation you are facing, for your good and His glory?
Are you fully persuaded that if the outcome is not according to your plan, in your timing, or as you desire that God is working for your good and His glory?
God’s Word encourages and instructs us to continually offer up a “sacrifice” of praise to God, through Jesus! The answer to our faithlessness is always found in Jesus.
Through him [Jesus] then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. —Hebrews 13:15
I am so very thankful for the grace and faithfulness of God who understands the human heart and remains faithful to me…even though I am often unfaithful. We can trust the Lord because He is faithful and trustworthy!
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. —Hebrews 13:8
What is challenging your walk of faith today? Where do you need to offer a sacrifice of praise to God through Jesus? In what areas of your life do you need to trust Him and allow Him to heal and restore your broken and empty heart? He will meet you where you are and He is so faithful, you can trust Him!
Spend some time reflecting on the verses from today and on the fact that God is Faithful!
It’s my prayer that through this series we will, “from the rising of the sun to its setting”, focus on and praise our amazing God! We’ll take the Word for the day and think about it, ponder it, pray it and practice it. We’ll allow it to really SOAK into our hearts and lives. And then we’ll SHINE — boast, rave, praise and celebrate God’s presence in our lives, reflecting Jesus to those around us.
