Fear Not…I AM

WORD Art_Isa 41_10Jehovah — I AM

God reveals himself as Yahweh/Jehovah —LORD.  It is the name by which He has been know from the creation of the world and it is His forever name. It is the proper name of God.  Yahweh/Jehovah translates “He who is”. When He says, I AM who I AM in Scripture, it means “He who is” and He subsists in a manner superior to all other beings!  He is the self-existent, all-sufficient One. He is the One who was, who IS and who will be. His name Yahweh/Jehovah, LORD, is often compounded with another word to describe the character of the Lord in greater detail.  For example, Jehovah-Jireh, the LORD who provides, in Genesis 22:14 or in Exodus 17:15, Jehovah-Nissi, the LORD is my banner.

One of my favorites is the contracted form of His name, Jehovah/Yahweh, which is JAH and means He IS!  (Note: In the Holman Christian Standard Bible translation, they print JAH whenever this contracted form of the Lord God appears.  It is found particularly in the Psalms).  So often I need that.  I need to know that He IS in this moment.  That He IS sovereign.  That He IS all-powerful.  That He IS unfailing love and so much more. There is great comfort for me in knowing God IS present in my every moment. I have nothing to fear! He will strengthen me.  He will uphold me.

Therefore, HE is to be the object and focus of my worship, because He alone is worthy.  And when I focus on the greatness of the great I AM, my preoccupation with self diminishes.  And the amazing thing is, instead of feeling alone, empty, discouraged and fearful, I end up being filled with the power of His presence.  I experience His joy, peace, love, acceptance and comfort in my life, and my heart and soul just SOAR!  I experience this because HE is!  He is present in this moment.

Rejoicing in Jesus!

Bluebirds & Bended Knee

“He bends down to hear me. I will pray to Him as long as I have breath.” Psalm 116:2

The word picture in this verse of the Lord God Almighty bending down from the heavenlies to hear my prayer has so captured my heart. It reminds me of some amazing realities: the Lord desires to fellowship with me and His faithfulness and love toward me are unfailing. He longs for me to just be available – listening, waiting, and watching — for me to bend my knee in an act of worship and adoration to Him.

One day after reading this verse at my kitchen table, I bowed my head, closed my eyes, and just sat very still in the Lord’s presence asking Him to just show up. As I looked up a few moments later, out my window, I saw a beautiful bluebird perched on the deck. I know this was a gift from the Lord! He delights to give us gifts that thrill our hearts. And He knew this one would thrill mine. I just love bluebirds and so rarely see them. He leaves precious gifts like bluebirds on the windowsill when I am still, watching and waiting. What a delight to be in the Lord’s presence just enjoying Him!

What are some of the things the Lord delights in telling us?

  • I have loved you with unfailing love and have drawn you to me with cords of kindness. Jeremiah 31:33
  • Fear not, I am with you. Isaiah 41:10
  • You are engraved on the palms of my hands. Isaiah 49:16
  • Stop fretting, I am Sovereign. Rest in Me! Psalm 46:10
  • I have heard your heart’s cry, trust Me! Psalm 34:17
  • You are forgiven in Christ! Ephesians 1:7
  • You are complete in Christ! Colossians 2:10
  • Here’s a part of your life you need to surrender to Me. Proverbs 3:5-6
  • Minister to this person. Galatians 5:13
  • Seek forgiveness from someone or offer forgiveness to someone. Colossians 3:13

And these are just a few of the multitude of things He speaks to us and over us. Take time today to draw near to the Lord and just delight in His presence.

Rejoicing in Him!
