Making the Most of A Moment…

A Moment —

A brief, indefinite interval of time: A point in time that is gratifying or noteworthy: Outstanding significance or value; importance.

I had a moment this week while reading My Little Book. It was just one little verse that sparked a great deal of pondering.

Now Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the Lord, obey it, and teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel. —Ezra 7:10

Ezra 7:10 –I love Ezra's heart commitment to the Word of God demonstrated in this verse. Study it. Do it. Share it.

I love the heart commitment of Ezra to the Word of God demonstrated in this verse! He purposed to:

  • Study it.
  • Do it.
  • Share it.

Awakened by Grace

11Jan | 2016

Awaken —my ‪#‎oneword365‬ ‪is so applicable to my life this year. But it was not complete. One of the words I considered for 2016 was #grace, but #awaken seemed to be what I needed. So it was the word I chose a few weeks ago. It resonated. And I love the word. But for the first time since I’ve been choosing words/themes, I’ve changed my word for the year. ‪I believe God is calling me to explore #grace in a more in-depth way this year. How can I embrace and extend grace in greater ways this year? It is God’s grace that will awaken those things that need to be rekindled in my life. #awakenedbyGrace

The New Testament Greek charis is rendered grace.

charis —of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues.

Grace is God's mercifully kind influence on my heart and soul that is then reflected in my life.

I have this little book…

Honestly, I have more Bibles and devotional books than any one person should admit. I love words. I love books. Especially those filled with Truth! I do have a few devotional books that are like old friends. They are my “go-to” books year after year. Most of them are worn, in need of rebinding, marked-up and tear-stained.

But I have this one little book whose permanent home is my nightstand.…continue reading

2016: Looking Back, Pressing Forward

As I closed out 2015 and began praying toward 2016, this verse kept resonating with me:

Oh give thanks to the Lord; call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! —Psalm 105:1

Thanksgiving is not an activity restricted to the month of November. It’s to be a daily practice in our lives and it has very real benefits for us. There is a direct correlation between giving thanks and our level of peace, joy, contentment and satisfaction in life.…continue reading

My #OneWord365

4Jan | 2016

posted by susan cady

My #oneword365 for 2016 is awaken! 2015 was a good year for our family. It was productive and full of blessing and provision. It brought new challenges and new friendships. And it brought some much-needed relief  in the area of our finances after six plus years of waiting and working hard! But as I ended 2015 and headed into 2016, one word described how I felt body, soul and spirit… tired. I’m tired. I can think of several things I “want” to do in 2016 in several areas of my life, and yet I have no energy or drive to get there…or even begin. I need the Lord to awaken me! To bring back to life passions and pursuits that I have laid aside or given up on. I need him to awaken and revive me body, soul and spirit. His awakening presence will be the key!

If you’ve never used #oneword to focus and be intentional throughout the year, I’d highly recommend it.  The Lord has been impressing one word or theme into my life for the last ten or so years, and it’s always been powerful and productive —always a great time of growth and experiencing His presence in new and amazing ways in my life. You can find out more here, and join with a community of people who are doing the same thing. It’s great encouragement and accountability.
