Awakened by Grace

Awaken_2016

Awaken —my ‪#‎oneword365‬ ‪is so applicable to my life this year. But it was not complete. One of the words I considered for 2016 was #grace, but #awaken seemed to be what I needed. So it was the word I chose a few weeks ago. It resonated. And I love the word. But for the first time since I’ve been choosing words/themes, I’ve changed my word for the year. ‪I believe God is calling me to explore #grace in a more in-depth way this year. How can I embrace and extend grace in greater ways this year? It is God’s grace that will awaken those things that need to be rekindled in my life. #awakenedbyGrace

The New Testament Greek charis is rendered grace.

charis —of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues.

Grace is God’s mercifully kind influence on my heart and soul that is then reflected in my life. It was God’s grace that first awakened my heart and soul to His invitation to know Jesus. His grace brought to light I was a sinner in desperate need of a Savior.

For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift — not from works, so that no one can boast.—Ephesians 2:8-9

And I need His grace and forgiveness every day in my life!

It is His grace that continues to transform, grow and strengthen me on a daily basis. I need His divine influence on my heart and mind every day.

Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. —Romans 12:2

For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double- edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the ideas and thoughts of the heart. —Hebrews 4:12

I’m looking forward to all the Lord has in store for me this year as I am awakened by His grace!

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be!
Let Thy goodness, like a fetter,
Bind my wandering heart to Thee.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.

(Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, Robert Robinson, 1758)
