Something New

7Sep | 2017

posted by susan cady

Home. Home has always been an important place to me. Perhaps it stems from a desire to put down roots as an Army brat who moved every two to four years growing up. But, I’m not sure that is entirely accurate. Yes, we did move ALOT! However, my mom always created an environment that said “you’re home”—wherever we lived. I believe home has more to do with a sense of belonging and the shared experiences that take place within the walls than it does a particular location. I love being home. I love creating an environment for people to gather, tell stories, laugh and cry together, and share life.

So…in early 2018 I’ll be adding a section to the blog where I’ll share DIY projects, hospitality tips, creative ideas, recipes and just all things HOME! I’m excited to share life from Cadybunch Cottage with you in the coming days.

In the meantime, we’d love to have you follow us on our Facebook page, @cadybunchcottage!

Making Memories Can Be Messy

14Aug | 2017

posted by susan cady

This past weekend we enjoyed hosting some friends who were part of our lives eight years ago when we hosted a small group in our home. Over the years, these young families have grown in number. We had 21 in our little cottage ranging in age from 10 months to 54 years. The house was full of life and noise and little feet in and out the screen door. Food was consumed, spilled and even smeared. We reminisced. We laughed. We encouraged one another. We have a bond formed years ago as we met weekly for almost two years and did life together. When we met, we were still in our rental home of 11 years. They listened and encouraged and prayed with us as we lamented that we felt we’d never own a home again. It was so great having them in our new home. And somewhere in the night a curtain rod was pulled from the wall by active little boys…but it’s all good! The rod can be repaired. I’d rather have the memories of a night spent with friends.

Making memories can be messy, but always worth it!

Leaving a Legacy…

20Jul | 2017

posted by susan cady

Hey friends, it’s been awhile!  I’ve struggled lately to get to this blog. I’ve struggled to find things to write. It’s been a stressful season of life for me this last year and a half and I’m just beginning to come out on the other side. I needed some rest. I hope to write a future posts on all God has been teaching me these last 18 months. But for now, I’ve found something that has sparked my heart and soul and I wanted to share with you all.…continue reading

Time on the Porch

What do you have planned for this weekend? It’s amazing how stressful and busy the week after a long weekend can be for me. We had a house full over Labor Day and I loved it! Our children and grandchildren made their first visit to our new home. We’d spent the summer preparing to move, packing, scheduling, sorting, purging, moving, unpacking and getting our home ready. As enjoyable as our time with family was, I am ready for a little quiet this weekend. Our new home has this great side porch, and even though we’re smack dab in the middle of a suburban subdivision, it’s so quiet and peaceful…our own little retreat.

This weekend, I’m going to sit a spell (that’s Southern for take a break, rest and make yourself comfortable). Have a cup of tea. Read a good book. Flip through my last two editions of Southern Living that I have yet to read. And spend some quiet time reading, studying and meditating in God’s Word. I need some one on one time with Jesus! I’ve also got a new book, Humility by Andrew Murray that I’m looking forward to diving into once I finish my current read.

What have you got planned for the weekend? Take time to sit a spell, breathe deeply and relax.

Be still, and know that I am God. —Psalm 46:10

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.—Psalm 23:1-3

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.  —Matthew 11:28-39

Rejoicing in Him!

Find the Time

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24

1440 minutes. 24 hours. 1 day.

Although we all have those “have to” and “must do” responsibilities, we still have choices on how we spend our moments in the day.

Some days busyness is a choice I make, when I really do have options on how much I allow on the calendar.

Some days it is a spirit of perfectionism or people pleasing driving my decisions, or I feel “guilty” if I’m not being “productive”.

God knows the responsibilities on my plate. He knows when I’m seeking approval from someone or something other than Him. When I commit and entrust my day to His care, He will order my moments and give me the rest and peace I need.

Some days I just need to give myself permission to relax and enjoy the day that the Lord has made.…continue reading
