Christmas is…Day 11

Christmas is…

“The Word became a human and lived among us. We saw His glory—the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father—and He was full of grace and truth.” —John 1:14

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the heir of all things, through whom also He created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” —Hebrews 1:1-3

Take a moment to really ponder the riches found in these two verses. There is so much beauty, life, hope, joy, peace and love found in the words of these Scriptures! What the prophets and people of God in the Old Testament only longed for is the present reality for us.

Worship the Lord in all His radiant glory today!

Rejoicing in Him!

Christmas Is…Day 10

Christmas is…

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call His name Immanuel (which means, God with us).” —Matthew 2:23-24

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” —John 14:6

Jesus makes it clear there is only one way to be reconciled to the Father. Only one way to experience God’s presence in our lives. He is! He is the way, the truth and the life for each of us.

This is a gift from God.

Our part is to simply receive the gift.

Rejoicing in Him!

Christmas Is…Day 9

Christmas is…

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound… —Isaiah 61:1

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord ‘s favor.”
And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “ Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing. —Luke 4:18-20

One of God’s names revealed to His people in the Old Testament is Jehovah Rapha—The Lord who heals (Exodus 15:26)

The ultimate fulfillment of God as Jehovah Rapha in our lives is found in Jesus!

He Himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls. —1 Peter 2:24

The word for healer in the Old Testament means to mend, to heal, to make healthy. It describes the restoring of a person’s soul, life. Jesus has done this for us. We who were dead in our sin, separated from God, without hope or a future have been restored and healed in Jesus! We are never too far gone in our sin to be healed and restored in Christ Jesus.

Regardless of what you find yourself facing this Christmas, you can rest in the knowledge that Jesus is near and He is the heart-healer.

Rejoicing in Him!

Christmas Is…Day 8

Christmas is…

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent. For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross. —Colossians 1:15-20

by Him…through Him…for Him..in Him…

How often do we strive and seek to accomplish and do in our own strength? How often do we seek to find our identity and worth in created things instead of resting in who we are in Christ Jesus and all that He has done for us?

Look to Him today! Remember regardless of what you are struggling with or striving for rest in the fact that He is above all things, over all things and holding all things together.

All things for His glory!

Christmas Is…Day 6

Christmas is…

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. —Isaiah 9:6

Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, He is the King of glory! Selah —Psalm 24:8-10

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you. —1 Peter 5:6-7

Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. —Matthew 11:28

But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore, I will most gladly boast all the more about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may reside in me. So I take pleasure in weaknesses, insults, catastrophes, persecutions, and in pressures, because of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong. —2 Corinthians 12:9-10

In what area of your life today do you need to know Him as Mighty God? Fall at the feet of Jesus and find rest for your weary soul and strength to face whatever comes your way this day.

Rejoicing in Him!

Christmas Is…Day 5

Christmas is…

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor… —Isaiah 9:6

This also comes from the LORD of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel and excellent in wisdom. —Isaiah 28:29

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. —Hebrews 4:15-16

Do you need to know Jesus today as your Wonderful Counselor? Colossians 2:3 tells us that in Christ “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” We can trust Him as our wise and wonderful Counselor knowing He can sympathize with our weaknesses and is listening when we cry out. Pour out your heart to Him today!

Rejoicing in Him!

Christmas Is…Day 3

Christmas Is…

But He was pierced for our transgressions;
He was crushed for our iniquities;
upon Hm was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with His wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on Him
the iniquity of us all.
—Isaiah 53:5-6

He himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By His wounds you have been healed. —1 Peter 2:24

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. —1 Corinthians 15:3-4

Stand in awe and worship the King who has bore our sins that we might live! He has healed our broken places so that we might walk in freedom and in fellowship with the Father.

Rejoicing in Him!

Christmas Is…Day 2

Christmas Is…

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall His name Immanuel. —Isaiah 7:14

But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” —Matthew 1:20-21

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight…—Ephesians 1:7

Jesus is Immanuel, God with us, who has saved us from our sins and brought forgiveness to us.

How often do we strive to perform and earn salvation based on our own works?

What are some of the ways you seek to earn God’s favor and forgiveness apart from Jesus?

Remember today the grace God has lavished upon you which has brought redemption and forgiveness to you in Christ alone!

Receive this gift—cease striving and know that He is God!

Rejoicing in Him!

Christmas Is…Day 1

Advent is a time of preparation. It’s a time to reflect upon and remember the first coming of Christ at His birth as well as anticipate His second coming when He will return. Each year I try to take time throughout December, in the midst of busy holiday activities, to still my heart, mind and body; and reflect upon and remember all that Christ’s birth has meant in my life.
