I want to invite you to join me this fall for a study in Psalm 119.
I’ve recently discovered a new Bible study resource—Journibles. Have you heard of them? I had not until a friend shared them with me. I was intrigued, so I headed over to Amazon to check them out. I decided to purchase one on Psalm 119 (one of my favorite psalms). It was $4 and I felt worth the cost to try it out. (Sidebar: I have a tendency to “collect” books and Bible study resources and never use them to their fullest potential).
I love Journibles! It’s simple. It’s powerful! You are given space to write out verses of Scripture going through one book of the Bible at a time. If you’ve read any of my posts or studied with me in person, you know I encourage slowing down to take in God’s Word rather than rushing for the sake of “getting through” a chapter or Bible study.
God’s Word is water and nourishment for our hungry and thirsty souls and spirits.
My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word! Psalm 119:25
My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word! Psalm 119:28
We need to take the time to get into the Word and allow the Word to work its way into us!
I meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways. I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word. Psalm 119:15-16
It’s amazing how writing out verses of Scripture will help you to do just that—to slow down! I’ve read and studied Psalm 119 many times before and the tendency can be to read at a glance or speed read through familiar passages. Writing out verses of Scripture naturally slows me down.
Another great suggestion from the publishers at Journible is to use these books of handwritten Scripture, and your personal thoughts and applications, as your personal legacy for future generations in your life. I love this idea! I love God’s Word. I want to know and live out God’s Word; and I want my children and grandchildren and future generations to know, love, and live out God’s Word!
So we’ll be taking a journey through Psalm 119 this Fall.
Psalm 119 is the longest psalm and the longest chapter in the Bible. It’s all about the Word of God.
This psalm is an acrostic with each section beginning with a letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
Something to keep in mind as you’re reading through Psalm 119, there are several repeated words used throughout this psalm to describe some facet of the Word of God. You’ll want to be on the lookout for these as you read:
- law or commandment – to be obeyed
- testimony – to be shared
- precept – to be practiced
- promise – to be claimed
- way – to be followed
We’ll be writing out the verses from four letters of the Hebrew alphabet each week. There are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet and this gets us through Psalm 119 in 6 weeks. So grab a blank notebook and join us as we write God’s Word upon our hearts and minds while writing out verses of Scripture. If you choose to purchase the Journible for Psalm 119 please note that our break down of verses won’t sync with the Journible schedule, but it will be close. Either method will work just fine! But please join us each week as we share some insights from what we’ve read and written, and we’d love to hear what you’ve learned each week. I’ll be posting on Monday and Thursday each week. Next week we’ll begin writing our verses and journaling thoughts. This week get ready by gathering your notebook or ordering your Journible (I know Amazon has them) and also read through all of Psalm 119. Just read. As you read, ask the Lord to begin to write His Words upon your heart and mind!
