Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. —2 Corinthians 3:17
This week we have contemplated and praised our God who is majestic and holy, our Deliverer, Jehovah-Nissi-Our Banner, and the source of true freedom in our lives.
July 4th is a time to celebrate and remember the freedoms we enjoy in this country. It is a time to remember and give thanks to those who have served sacrificially and faithfully to protect those freedoms for us. This desire to serve others should characterize our lives as well, as those who can rejoice and celebrate our freedom in Christ.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. —2 Corinthians 3:17-18
Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! We walk in freedom because of who we are in Christ and what He has done to set us free from sin and death. We experience the joy and peace of true freedom as God’s Word and Spirit daily transform our lives —our thoughts, our behaviors and our attitudes —so that we look more like Jesus. As He changes us from the inside out, it brings about a desire to love and serve Him and to love and serve others. (Matthew 22:36-39).
For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. —Galatians 5:1, 13
Loving and serving others is not always easy and does not come naturally to us. It requires we seek, rely upon, and look to Jesus for the strength and power needed to serve and love others like Jesus. Like our theme for this series expresses, we SOAK in God’s Word and His presence so that we might pour out and SHINE, reflecting Jesus to others, all to the praise and glory of God!
Further Study: If you’d like to study further what it means to love one another and some practical ways we can walk that out in our lives, check out the Walk in Love series on the blog.
Spend some time reflecting on the verses from today and on the fact that God is majestic and holy, our Deliverer, our Freedom! How might God be calling you to use your freedom in Christ to serve and love someone today?
It’s my prayer that through this series we will, “from the rising of the sun to its setting”, focus on and praise our amazing God! We’ll take the Word for the day and think about it, ponder it, pray it and practice it. We’ll allow it to really SOAK into our hearts and lives. And then we’ll SHINE — boast, rave, praise and celebrate God’s presence in our lives, reflecting Jesus to those around us.
